If you want to build some worthwhile links for your site, it’s a good idea to have some good link bait ideas on hand. Good link bait doesn’t come very easily, so it’s a good idea to start thinking about it at the very beginning of your SEO campaign.
Some of the more common link bait ideas include:
*Take a stand. Many bloggers recommend this move because it is one thing you can do easily. Find a debate in your industry and compose a piece defending one side.
*Humour. One of the truisms in culture is that everyone loves a laugh. Happy, humorous content tends to get more positive results because people like to be entertained. This is balanced by the fact that humorous content is a little harder to create. It can help to get a professional writer for this kind of content unless you’ve been hit with inspiration.
*Information. Content with information that no-one else has is good link bait. It can be difficult to find a subject no-one else in your industry has covered, but the research to find a topic can be well worthwhile.
Before you begin to pursue these ideas, it’s important to follow the following steps:
1. Decide which target group you want to appeal to. Most sites have a number of target audiences. Within a site, individual pages will also have subtly different audiences, each of which needs to be thought about when you’re looking for inbound links.
For example, a computer hardware online store might have main pages with hardware for laptops and hardware for PCs. Even without delving further into these broad categories, you can see how the audiences for each category will be slightly different people at different times. A page about laptop hardware will be better supported by inbound links that come from sites specialising in laptops as opposed to general computers, and the same is true for desktop PCs.
When you’re beginning to plan out your link bait, it is important to set out the different audiences for your pages and determine what kinds of links you’re after. Looking at competitor pages may even give you some ideas of which keywords to target. 2. Do some research. Each online community has its own quirks. Different target groups will find different things attractive, so it’s essential to investigate what type of bait to use to lure different types of links with. Look at the sites you want links from and study their existing content. This might give you ideas for the sort of content that might prove tempting.
3. Invest in quality bait. Many companies go to all the effort of researching for link bait, then offer up content that is just not worth it. It’s worth investing in something that’s of high quality. If you’re hosting it on your site, it may be able to boost your return traffic as well.
